🟠 Activity 1: Material Hunt in the Classroom

How to do:

  • Children look around for 2 minutes and list items made of wood, glass, plastic, metal.
  • They draw one item from each group.

Materials Required:

  • Notebook, pencil

Learning Benefit:

  • Helps children identify materials around them and connect textbook concepts to real life.

🟢 Activity 2: Transparent–Translucent–Opaque Sorting

How to do:

  • Teacher gives objects: glass, butter paper, metal plate, paper cup etc.
  • Children test if they can see through it.
  • Sort into 3 groups.

Materials:

  • Glass, tissue/butter paper, metal lid, paper, torch

Benefits:

  • Children understand transparency and different material properties.

🔵 Activity 3: Colour the World – Colour Filter Experiment

How to do:

  • Children look at a white paper through coloured plastic sheets (red, blue, yellow).
  • Observe how colours change.

Materials:

  • Coloured transparent plastic sheets, torch, white paper

Benefits:

  • Develops understanding of light, colour mixing, and transparency.

🟣 Activity 4: Touch & Tell – Material Feel Test

How to do:

  • Blindfold volunteer students.
  • Give them objects: spoon, cloth, paper, plastic cup, comb.
  • They describe feel: smooth, rough, cold, warm.

Materials:

  • Cloth pieces, metal spoon, plastic items, paper, rubber

Benefits:

  • Improves sensory learning and understanding of material properties.

🟡 Activity 5: Sound Orchestra – Ting Ting Dhum Dhum

How to do:

  • Tap different materials with a spoon.
  • Write the sound: ting, thak, dhum.
  • Make a small rhythm.

  • Metal spoon, glass, wood, plastic containers

Benefits:

  • Children understand how materials produce different sounds.

🔴 Activity 6: Does It Bend? – Flexibility Test

How to do:

  • Give objects: rubber band, paper, cloth, stick, straw.
  • Students test which can bend and which cannot.

Materials:

  • Straw, rubber band, stick, paper, cloth

  • Helps understand hard, soft, flexible materials.

🧊 Activity 7: Solid – Liquid – Gas Sorting Game

How to do:

  • Teacher shows items: water bottle, stone, balloon with air.
  • Students classify into solids, liquids, gases.

Materials:

  • Balloon, water, stone, perfume spray (optional)

Benefits:

  • Simple hands-on learning of states of matter.

How to do:

  • Teacher shows picture cards of trees, birds, shoes, chair, rock.
  • Children sort into natural & artificial categories.

How to do:

  • Teacher shows examples: “Umbrella made of paper?”
  • Children suggest funny wrong pairs.
  • Explain why wrong.

  • Builds reasoning, critical thinking, and understanding of correct materials.
