1. Look at the picture of Chandan’s village. What do you see in the picture? Describe below.
Sample answer: I can see houses, a road, a playground, people, trees and public places in the village. The village looks clean, active and connected.
2. Explore your locality. Write your observations about how the people and places are connected.
Place / People Connections between people and places
Shopkeeper Sells food items, clothes and daily needs. Sells local products.
Road Connects people living in different areas. Allows easy movement of goods and services.
Health Centre Provides treatment for illness. Helps sick people get medical care. Supports community health.
Police Provides safety. Maintains law and order. Helps people in emergencies.
School Helps children learn. Teachers guide students. It builds knowledge and good values.
This table is completed using the lesson clues: shopkeeper, road, health centre, police and school all help people in different ways and keep community life running smoothly.
3. Why is it important to have places like parks, schools, hospitals and bus stops in your locality?
These places are important because they help people in daily life. Parks give space to play and relax, schools give education, hospitals give treatment and bus stops help people travel easily.
4. How would life be different if one or more of these places in your locality did not exist?
Life would become difficult. Children may not study properly without schools, sick people may not get treatment without hospitals and travel would become harder without bus stops.
5. What can you do to keep these places clean and safe?
We can use dustbins, avoid littering, protect public property, plant trees and follow rules. We can also join cleanliness drives and encourage others to keep places neat.
6. Activity: Create a colourful poster to invite people from the neighbourhood to participate in Van Mahotsav.
Sample poster text: “Join us for Van Mahotsav! Let us clean the park, plant trees and make our neighbourhood green and beautiful. Date: ______ Time: ______ Place: ______ Everyone is welcome.”
7. Identify the people who help in maintaining your locality. What are their occupations?
Sample answer: Sweeper - keeps roads clean; gardener - cares for plants; electrician - repairs lights; mason - repairs walls; police officer - keeps people safe; doctor or nurse - helps sick people.
8. Fill the table: work required for developing and maintaining the park.
People at work Occupation What they do Material / Tool / Skill
Mason Mason Mends walls using bricks and cement. Trowel, bricks, cement, wall repair skill
Carpenter Carpenter Repairs benches in the park. Wood, nails, hammer, measuring skill
Electrician Electrician Repairs the street light. Wire, pliers, tester, electrical repair skill
Gardener Gardener Plants saplings and waters plants. Saplings, watering can, shovel, gardening skill
Painter Painter Paints walls and park items. Paint, brush, colour mixing skill
The lesson gives mason as an example and mentions repairing benches, fixing street lights and planting saplings, so suitable occupations include carpenter, electrician and gardener.
