Thank You Card Writing – Class 4 Activity

🦌 Thank You Card Writing Class 4

A fun, hands-on activity to help children express gratitude through words, art, and kindness.

💛

🌟 Learning Objective Goal

By the end of this activity, students will be able to:

  • understand why we say thank you;
  • identify the sender and receiver of a card;
  • write a short, polite thank‑you message;
  • use simple sentences to express gratitude and appreciation;
  • decorate and present their own thank‑you card.

🦌 Step 1 — Start with a Story

“Imagine that you are the old stag. You were very sick. Your friends came to help you. They brought you food, stayed with you and made you feel better. How would you feel?

Ask the class:

  • Who helped the stag?
  • Why was the stag thankful?
  • What would you say to someone who helped you?
  • Have you ever thanked someone for helping you?

💬 Let 3–4 children share their experiences.

💡 Step 2 — Teach the Meaning of “Gratitude”

GRATITUDE = Feeling thankful for someone's kindness or help.

Simple examples:

  • “Thank you, Mother, for helping me.”
  • “Thank you, friend, for sharing your lunch.”
  • “Thank you, teacher, for helping me learn.”

✨ Explain that a thank‑you card is a special way of showing gratitude.

✍️ Step 3 — Show Them the Structure

Draw a card on the board, then show this sample:

📬 Front
🦌 🐰 🐦
THANK YOU!
❤️ 🌳 🌸
📄 Inside
Dear Friends,
Thank you for taking care of me when I was sick.
You were very kind to me.
Your love and care made me feel better.
I am lucky to have wonderful friends like you.
With love and thanks,
Your friend, Stag
🦌 🌿 💛

💡 “You don't have to write exactly the same sentences. You can use your own words.”

🧩 Step 4 — Give Sentence Starters

Write these on the board. Children can choose 3–4 sentences and complete them.

✍️ Dear ________,
✍️ Thank you for ________.
✍️ You helped me by ________.
✍️ I felt ________ because of your kindness.
✍️ I am very happy to have a friend like you.
✍️ With love, Your friend, ________

🎨 Step 5 — Make Their Own Card

  • Give each child a sheet of paper.
  • Ask them to fold it into two parts.

📌 Front:

  • Draw the stag and his friends and write “THANK YOU!”

📌 Inside:

  • Write their own thank‑you message.

🎨 Encourage them to add:

🌳 Trees 🦌 Stag 🐰 Rabbit 🐦 Birds ❤️ Hearts 🌸 Flowers

🎭 Step 6 — Role Play

Make pairs.

  • Student A: Pretends to be the sick stag.
  • Student B: Pretends to be a helpful friend.
🦌 Stag (A) “Thank you for taking care of me.”
🐰 Friend (B) “You are welcome. I am happy to help you.”

Then change roles and repeat.

⭐ Step 7 — Connect It With Real Life

Ask students to make another imaginary thank‑you card for someone they care about:

👩 Mother 👨 Father 👴 Grandparents 👩‍🏫 Teacher 🤝 Friend 🧹 School helper 👨‍⚕️ Doctor / Nurse

“Whom would you like to thank?”

This makes the lesson meaningful rather than just a textbook exercise.

🏆 Simple Assessment

Use a quick 5‑point checklist:

Understands why the stag is thankful 1
Writes a suitable greeting 1
Gives a reason for saying thank you 1
Writes polite and meaningful sentences 1
Draws / decorates the card creatively 1

Total: 5 marks

🌈 Closing Activity — “Thank You Circle”

Make students stand in a circle. Each child says:

“Thank you, ________, for ________.”

💬 “Thank you, Riya, for sharing your pencil with me.”

💛
🌿

This teaches children that gratitude is not only something we write —
it is something we practise in our daily life.
