Activity 1: Waste Sorting Game

How children will do it:

  • The teacher places two paper dustbins in the class – one green and one blue.
  • Small paper slips with names of waste items are kept in a box.
  • One student comes forward, picks one slip and reads it aloud.
  • The student decides which dustbin the waste should go into.
  • The class confirms by clapping or correcting.
Example:
Slip says: “Banana peel”
Student puts it in the Green dustbin.

Learning Outcome: Children understand wet and dry waste segregation.

Activity 2: My Daily Waste Talk

How children will do it:

  • Children sit in a circle.
  • Each child gets a turn to speak.
  • The child names one thing they throw away every day.
  • The teacher writes common answers on the blackboard.
Example student responses:
“I throw pencil shavings.”
“I throw chocolate wrappers.”
“I throw fruit peels.”

Learning Outcome: Children realise waste is created by daily activities.

Activity 3: Reduce or Reuse Cards

How children will do it:

  • The teacher shows situation cards or reads them aloud.
  • Students think and answer whether it is Reduce or Reuse.
  • Children also explain how they can do it.
Example:
Situation: “Using cloth bag instead of plastic bag”
Student answer: Reduce

Situation: “Making toys from old newspapers”
Student answer: Reuse

Learning Outcome: Children understand Reduce and Reuse clearly.

Activity 4: Clean vs Dirty Place Role Play

How children will do it:

  • Two students come to the front.
  • One student acts as a clean place.
  • The other acts as a dirty place.
  • They speak one or two lines each.
Example dialogue:
Clean place: “I feel happy and healthy.”
Dirty place: “I smell bad and make people sick.”

Learning Outcome: Children connect cleanliness with health.

Activity 5: Thank You Cleanliness Drawing

How children will do it:

  • Children draw a picture of a clean park, dustbin or broom.
  • They write a short thank you message.
  • Teacher discusses the role of sanitation workers.
Example message:
“Thank you for keeping our school clean.”

Learning Outcome: Children develop respect and responsibility.

Conclusion:
These activities help children observe, speak, think, act and reflect — exactly as suggested by NCERT and Kendriya Vidyalaya competency-based learning.
